The incident happened around 6.30pm on Friday February 12th and upon receiving word of what had gone down the 61-year-old Italian raced back from Everton’s training ground to his Crosby home.

Police have now revealed that they recovered a safe that was taken from Ancelotti’s home the next day in Thornton.

Merseyside police said the safe had been “forced open” but they refused to reveal the value of its contents and they have taken an item for a “forensic examination”.

Police are still tracing the masked thieves who were dressed all in black who lifted the safe from Ancelotti’s home in minutes.
