Formula One rookie Gabriel Bortoleto could have missed the Canadian GP after his passport was stolen.
According to a report from The Sun, the Sauber driver was in Switzerland at the time the incident occurred. His computer was also stolen in a robbery.
The report stated that the culprits broke into Bortoleto’s car and stole a backpack while he was dining with friends at the Playground of Europe.
The bag contained several important travel documents, including his passport, electronics, and clothes.
The youngster travelled 4,000 miles to Canada ahead of the Montreal Grand Prix with a second passport.
Bortoleto is still able to race in Canada, as the robbers were caught.
The Brazilian said: “I had gone to dinner one day in Switzerland and they ended up opening the car and taking my backpack.
“I had my passports, everything inside, my computer, all my running gear.”
The thieves were eventually caught and arrested, and the Swiss police have been able to retrieve some of the materials.
Bortoleto added: “It was chaos, but we managed to find the guy.
“Everything worked out in the end, I have my passports. We didn’t find everything, but we did find some things.”
The incidents of robbery involving F1 drivers are nothing new.
Two years ago, Carlos Sainz thwarted three men who tried to steal his £500,000 watch just hours after the Italian Grand Prix.
