Bohemians apologise for Danny Mandroiu team news error

Bohemians have issued an apology to Danny Mandroiu after they mistakenly said he was unavailable for Friday night’s clash with Dundalk because he was ‘gargled’.

The unusual reason for Mandroiu’s absence appeared in Bohemians’ team news prior to the League of Ireland Premier Division game last night.

The post created quite a stir online and Mandroiu took to Twitter to voice his displeasure. The 21-year-old wrote: “Regarding the team news that @bfcdublin sent out earlier, what was said was completely untrue. I am out injured at the moment. I’m sure you will hear this from the club too eventually but I just wanted to clear that up for myself and my reputation.”

Bohemians subsequently issued an apology, the club explained that a joke sent via WhatsApp was accidentally copied and pasted into the official team news release.

We sincerely apologise.

A Bohemians statement read: “Something that appeared in our teams news has understandably annoyed one of our players for which we sincerely apologise.

“Team news was circulated on WhatsApp yesterday, and what later appeared was sent back to the sender as a joke. When the match preview was compiled, this was copied/pasted accidentally and appeared in preview mailout before it was corrected in online version.

“Sincere apologies to the player involved for understandable but unintended annoyance and potential reputational damage caused.”

Bohemians showcased their title credentials with a 2-1 victory at Dalymount Park. Keith Long’s side went 2-0 up within the first 15 minutes through goals from Danny Grant and Keith Buckley.

A Michael Duffy header reduced the deficit three minutes before the break but Dundalk failed to find an equaliser in the second-half.

The result sees Bohemians leapfrog their rivals into second place in the table.
