In news that no doubt will have come as music to the airs of Irish boxing fans recently, UTV Ireland announced that Belfast world champion Carl Frampton will have his US debut  broadcast live on their station for Irish fight enthusiasts.

Belfast’s favourite fighting son and reigning IBF super bantamweight champion Carl “The Jackal” Frampton will travel to America for the first time as a professional, when he put’s his belt on the line against Mexico’s Alejandro Gonzalez Jr.

The fight will take place later this month on July 18th in the Don Haskins Convention Center, El Paso, Texas and will also be shown live on network television to the masses in the USA.

The really beautiful news for Irish fans however, is that the fight will still take place at a reasonable time over here in the Emerald Isle, with the bout expected to get underway around the 9.45pm mark (as it stands).

With the recent success of last week’s BoxNation TV Dublin show, professional boxing is really buzzing again in Ireland.

Carl Frampton will no doubt be looking to add to this positive pugilistic momentum for “The Fighting Irish”. Here’s a little reminder as to why “The Jackal” has become so popular in recent times.
