Algerian footballer Sofiane Lokar died on Christmas Day after suffering a reported heart attack on the field of play.

As is mentioned in details provided by The Sun, Lokar was playing in an Algerian second-tier fixture on Christmas Day. The 30-year-old hit the deck with a head injury but was cleared to continue in the contest.

Unfortunately, he fell to the turf for a second time just nine minutes later and this time it was evident that the seriousness of the situation had increased, significantly.

As the report states, Lokar is understood to have suffered a heart attack. CPR was performed on the pitch, but medics were unable to revive him, and sadly, he was subsequently pronounced dead.

Rest in peace, Sofiane Lokar.

He married the love of his life last week, with Lokar cruelly being robbed of his future and his wife of her husband.

A video has been doing the rounds on social media of Lokar receiving treatment following his collapse, but out of respect to him and his family, we feel it would be inappropriate to give it any more airtime.

Should you stumble across the video, we urge you not to repost it.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Lokar’s beloved at this impossibly difficult time. May he rest in peace.
