A spokesperson for Paddy Power / Betfair has predicted that the amount they expect to be gambled on Mayweather v McGregor is set to break the £50 million pound mark as the mega-fight draws closer.
So far Betfair have seen a staggering £11.3 millions pounds placed on the fight so far which has already surpassed the previous record which was set during the Mayweather v Pacquiao fight in 2015 which drew in £5.7 million pounds.
“It’s now three weeks until one of the most anticipated fights in recent memory and with £11.3 million bet on the outcome alone already this is now the biggest boxing betting event in Betfair history.
“We expect this fight to trade well over £50m and could even get to the £100m mark, which would be one of our biggest sporting events of all time.
“Floyd Mayweather Jr is the 1/5 favourite, with Conor McGregor at 5/1. As you would expect most of the money is for Mayweather Jr, however 40% of bets are on McGregor, compared to 34% on Mayweather Jr and 26% on the draw.”
Mayweather and McGregor will go head-to-head in a 12-round showdown at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on August 26th.
