Wout Weghorst has a new nickname at Manchester United inspired by Lionel Messi

Manchester United’s Wout Weghorst has been given a new nickname by Lisandro Martinez after his altercation with Lionel Messi in Qatar.

The nickname comes from a moment after Argentina beat the Dutch on penalties to advance to the competition’s semi-finals.

Messi was interviewed after the match by the Argentinian press and while he was talking, he got distracted by something behind the camera, which caused him to shout in Spanish “Who are you looking at, stupid? Go ahead, you stupid.”, with most football fans hearing him say “bobo“, which mean “idiot” or “fool” in Spanish. It turns out, the insult was aimed at Weghorst.

Messi’s outburst seems to have humoured Martinez, who now calls Weghorst “Bobo”.

It’s probably not the best time for the 30-year old to be handed such a nickname however, with Weghorst scoring just once in his seven Red Devils appearances so far, and Erik ten Hag considering dropping him from the squad for this weekend’s game against Leeds United.

Hopefully Weghorst can find the back of the net again soon, so he can prove that he deserves to start as the club’s main striker in this second half of the season.
