Wout Weghorst gives laughable reason for touching ‘This is Anfield’ sign – the fans aren’t buying it

Wout Weghorst has explained the reasoning behind touching the ‘This Is Anfield’ sign and Manchester United fans aren’t happy about it.

Wweghorst came out after the match once the video of him touching the sign had done the rounds on social media to claim that touching the sign was an attempt to wind up Virgil van Dijk, reaffirming his desire to fully represent United.

I just want to clarify the video that is doing the rounds.

From the national team, I know that Virgil always touches that sign and I went to stop him touching it to try and wind him up before the game. As a proud player for Manchester United, my dedication to this incredible club can never be questioned.

Sunday was a terrible day for all of us, we are putting everything into making it right in the next weeks.

United fans weren’t sympathising with the striker though, with many commenting under his response to the video.

B*****s should never put the United top on again touching the dirty badge.”

You believing this?

Virg is halfway down the tunnel and still got his hand on the sign.

A rough day at the office for Weghorst who will have hopefully learned not to touch the sign of his club’s arch-rivals again.
