Footage emerges of moment Deontay Wilder tells Tyson Fury he doesn’t respect him after trilogy bout

Previously unseen footage has emerged of Deontay Wilder telling Tyson Fury that he doesn’t respect him in the immediate wake of their trilogy bout in Las Vegas.

Wilder and Fury made up one of the most entertaining rivalries in the history of boxing. Though for some there was little appetite to see a third bout, with Fury having been robbed on the scorecards in the first fight and a convincing winner in the second, their trilogy tussle was the best of the bunch.

Though Wilder had his WBC heavyweight belt permanently taken off him, which left the 35-year-old’s career in troubled waters, you’d think that he would have been able to pay his respects to Fury after what was a thrilling end to a riveting rivalry.

The American was seemingly unable to do so, however. Footage has emerged from the immediate aftermath of the fight, during which Fury approaches Wilder and tells him “you got beat fair and square tonight,” yet still is denied the respect of the hard-hitting heavyweight.

Wilder clearly lacks the class in defeat of a true champion, but you can understand that he will have been hurting and perhaps it wasn’t the best time for Fury to attempt to build bridges with a man who he has been slating for several years.

While some will criticise Wilder for his conduct, and understandably so, it is refreshing to see that their rivalry was not merely manufactured in order to drive PPV sales – there really is no love lost between the pair.
