Fabrizio Romano has provided some insight into why Paulo Fonseca decided to reject a move to Tottenham at the eleventh hour.
Tottenham’s search for a new manager had been arduous enough to date. Sixty days, countless managers linked but no appointment to date.
While Spurs’ rivals will have already drawn up their transfer plans and will be actively working on deals to turn them into reality, the Tottenham fanbase are in the dark as to who their will be pursuing this summer.
Danie Levy and the ENIC Group are doing a pretty shambolic job steading the ship at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but they do appear to have higher powers working against them.
With the Antonio Conte saga put to bed, Paulo Fonseca looked set to become the new Tottenham manager, with the BBC reporting on Tuesday that the deal was close.
The deal has since fallen though, with Fabrizio Romano taking to Twitter to reveal that complications in regards to tax have prevented Fonseca from taking the job.
Paulo Fonseca to Tottenham is 100% OFF. Deal collapsed because of taxes issues despite contract already completed and set to be signed – Fonseca had tax advantages from an Italian law which is not applicable in the UK 🚨⚪️ #THFC
Spurs in talks with Gattuso now, as per @DiMarzio.
