Why Mustafa Ali was not released from his WWE contract, despite #FreeAli campaign

Some insight has been provided as to why Mustafa Ali was NOT released from his WWE contract.

Last month, Ali publicly requested that the WWE tear up his contract and allow him to move on with his life and career.

His request was followed by a campaign led by fans using the hashtag #FreeAli. Said campaign was supported by fellow wrestlers, who all hoped that Ali would be granted his wish.

However, perhaps unsurprisingly, Vince McMahon and the others pulling the strings at the top of the WWE outright denied his request to be released, asserting their intentions to hold him to his contract.

According to reports, the WWE’s reasoning is that he has “well over a year, at least” remaining on his deal, so they feel as though they are well within their rights to hold him to that agreement.

Regardless of whether you think it’s right for the WWE to hold fighters against their will, you can understand why the company would think it illogical to go back on a deal that was signed in ink.
