One of the great players to ever play the game, Cristiano Ronaldo isn’t just a great player but a real leader on an off the pitch and who can forget the penalty shoot-out in 2016 where Portugal were crowned the Champions. Although Ronaldo had to go off in the game, he was very much leading his team to Euros glory. Is this what England were missing in their penalty shoot-out? Someone to stand up and call out the leaders to take the big penalties rather than putting it all on 19 year old Saka.

Having said that England will have learned a lot from that final and have come on a long way since Iceland in 2016, hopefully from the point of view of an English person this is only the start of an era, rather than the end.
