Wayne Rooney being lined up for sensational Premier League return

Wayne Rooney is being lined up to replace the struggling Rafa Benitez at Everton, according to The Sun.

Rooney took his first job in management with Championship outfit Derby County. It’s safe to say the former Manchester United striker has had a baptism of fire into the role.

Wazza has had to endure a severe financial crisis, which has seen his squad picked apart to the bare bones, as well as Derby being deducted a total of 21 points.

However, while there is little to no possibility of Derby staying up in England’s second tier, they are not yet out of the fight, with Rooney’s stewardship the main reason behind that.

Could Wayne Rooney be heading back to Everton as manager?

His work at Pride Park has clearly left those pulling the strings at former employers Everton impressed, with The Sun reporting that the Toffees are considering handing him the manager’s role.

Rafa Benitez has proven himself unable to reverse the slump at Goodison, with the Spaniard expected to be handed his marching orders in due course.

Rooney would be somewhat of a wildcard appointment but might be just what Everton need to steady the ship until the end of the season. Let’s wait and see if this materialises.
