Claudio Ranieri keen to bring Liverpool ace to Watford before the transfer window’s end

Claudio Ranieri is interested in bringing Liverpool defender Nat Phillips to Watford this month, according to the London Evening Standard.

Phillips, against all odds, emerged as a key figure in the Liverpool defence last season.

The various, long-term injuries that Jurgen Klopp’s men suffered in their back-line considerably thinned out their options and left Phillips at the front of the queue for first-team opportunities.

He performed commendably, and while there was little prospect of him retaining his spot once the likes of Virgil Van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip returned from injury, he did his stock absolutely no harm at all.

Phillips could be set to secure a Premier League transfer this month. According to the London Evening Standard, Claudio Ranieri is desperate to bring him to Vicarage Road before the end of the window.

Watford are in need of defensive reinforcements in Ranieri’s desperate bid to prevent their relegation to the Championship. Signing Phillips could prove to be a masterstroke.

There is no mention in the report of how much Phillips would set Watford back, but you can’t imagine, even with his last season success, that Liverpool would demand too much of a considerable sum.
