Warren Gatland and the WRU went their separate ways on Tuesday morning and today it was announced that the Kiwi won’t be taking the six figure sum that he could have easily got.
Instead the former Irish coach has left the money in a hope that the WRU will use that money in the right manner to get the right man in to do the job.

Gatland's waives six-figure sum in parting gesture, leaving Wales in a position to offer a decent deal to any prospective coach.

Very good of him to do that. It’s pretty clear that it just wasn’t working. A new coach won’t solve everything but I can’t see how things could have gotten better under Gatland. Guaranteed to pump us on the final weekend now.
Good move. While I’m angry about a lot of this, I was also a little sad to see the man tarnish his own legacy. This gesture makes a difference and shows loyalty and humility which I respect
Fair play to the lad. He must know this is his last big coaching gig after this, so walking away from a large sum of money isn’t done trivially.
Well done to Gatland for doing this, it was time for him to go but at least he is not like Eddie Jones.
When are the WRU going to exit stage left also? It’s being run by a bunch of clowns – which is why we are where we are…
A man with honour and respect for his adopted nation and sport. Such a pity that the WRU, who are overseeing the demise of Welsh rugby from the bottom up, have no similar honour.
For whatever pundit spouted the garbage about ‘left them with enough to pay his successor to do a better job’, you clearly have not a clue.
I couldn’t agree more. Thank you Gats, you have been great!
New Zealand rugby had to call on the baby blacks a couple of times when large numbers of allblacks retired Wales appears to be in a similar situation
Depth is always the key
Some young promising players just need experience
Gats thanks for the past coming back second time with players we got and wru was not good idea u tried it was not to be it’s goin take long time before we have good years I don’t think it will ever come back way it was we have not got enough good players so all best when u go back home
That was a kind gesture.
The WRU must look at themselves and take some blame for this debacle and state of our National team.
Why get rid of Gatland?
Why not shake up the whole WRU?
Maybe too comfortable in their roles.
Why not get a new setup?
Younger blood?
It’s NOT all on the manager and players.
Worse thing to happen was turning our game professional.
Money us more important than the honour of putting on the shirt.
Sad times indeed.
Abi Tierney has done nothing since becoming Chief Executive, there were calls for her & her cronies to go.
However getting rid of Gatland gives her a scapegoat and a way to deflect any issues on her & her team on the departing Coach.
Gatland did a great deal of good for Wales …I wish him well.
Totally agree with you. Once they became professional it was ‘I’m here for the money not the game!’
Perhaps some of in the Union ought to do the same.
They have mismanaged Welsh Rugby for many years.
Very classy of Gats and it doesn’t surprise me. Let down by the WRU, as the rest of Wales has.
Warren Gatland has always done his best for Wales, and the Welsh people unlike the WRU who are just lining their own pockets.
Just ask the people who they support; Warren or the WRU. We all agree that the wrong person has left their position. Warren Gatland has made his place in Welsh History in a great way. As for the WRU… well you would be hard pressed to find anyone who would have a good word to say about them.
When are all the teams going to get paid equally for the work they put into the World Cup?
Sheer class. A humble gesture. A pity the WRU don’t appreciate the man and what he stands for. In all this, I wonder if the Welsh know how to run any of their public services. Rugby just being one of them.
Warren Gatland is in my opinion the best coach Wales have ever had.He has been put in the firing line,to save the worthless skins of the so called bosses. They refuse to admit that welsh rugby started to fail the day they let Shaun Edwards go.They were too thick to realise they had the absolute dream team in their hands.I remain convinced if they had kept their noses out of the coaching we woujd be in a better place than we are now
Why should the man not have been paid the contractual sum due for taking on a massive, some might say impossible challenge.
ARE THEY GETTING RID OF WATER BOY LETT A YOUTH PLAYER DO IT NEVER SEEN J Wilkinson doing this job
A class gesture from a class man!
Undoubtedly the best man Wales have had since the days of Carwyn James.
WRU let Gats down & dont deserve a man of his class.
Time for the family & rest.
Thank you Mr Gatland!! We will miss you
Gatland was a great coach he’s done wonders for Wales I’m afraid it’s not the coach to blame it’s the WRU. They should all resign on block they have milked the cash cow I can only say they are a disgrace to Welsh rugby and go immediately.
Nah. Take the money.
