Cody Gakpo has been a star at this year’s World Cup for the Netherlands, with the 23-year old PSV wideman scoring three goals so far for his nation in Qatar, as they find themselves in a World Cup quarter-final for the first time since 2014.

In light of his recent performances, Gakpo has been linked with a host of top clubs, most notably Manchester United, but Dutch captain Virgil van Dijk has given the youngster some harsh truths surrounding the rumours.
The Liverpool man is said to have offended a few United fans after saying: “Are Manchester United and Real Madrid on the same level? No disrespect, not at all.
“I definitely think he has that next step in him. I definitely feel like it could happen, whether that is in the winter or the summer or next year, time will tell. He is a great boy who works hard, is very talented and there is more in him. We are so pleased he is doing so well for us. Long may it continue.”
