Vinicius Junior finished second behind Rodri in the 2024 Ballon d’Or standings
Following missing out on the prestigious award the Brazilian took to social media to vent.
After a stellar season for both Manchester City and Spain it was Rodri who was crowned the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner.
Following his win he said: “Good evening everybody, I have to thank many people. First of all France Football and UEFA for giving me this award.
“Thanks for being here again everyone, I want to thank those who voted for me. Today is a special day not just for me but for my family. First of all, I have to thank a very special person, my girlfriend Laura, today is our eighth anniversary. Without her, things would not be the same.”
“Also my family, of course. The values they have taught me and all they represent in me, for having taught me the right steps to take and for helping me become the man I am.”
However, Real Madrid had believed that Vinicius should have won the award and boycotted the event when they found out that he had missed out on the award.
After the ceremony had finished, Vinicius wrote on social media: “Eu farei 10x se for preciso. Eles não estão preparados,” which translates to: “I’ll do it 10x if I have to. They’re not ready.”
Eu farei 10x se for preciso. Eles não estão preparados.

Several of Vinicius’ teammates also took to social media to support their colleague including Eduardo Camavinga who said: “My brother you are the best player in the world and no award can say otherwise. Love you my bro.”
