There were unprecedented scenes in Brighton today as Manchester United were awarded a penalty after the full-time whistle was blown.

Brighton thought they had clinched a late point when Solly March equalised to make it 2-2 deep in injury time.

United then went up to the other end and thought they had won it when a Harry Maguire effort looked to be going in at the far post only for Solly March to pop up again with a goal line clearance.

The referee then blew the full-time whistle only to be surrounded by United player who were claiming Brighton striker Neal Maupay handled the ball in the lead up to the goal line clearance.

The referee checked VAR and awarded the penalty after the full-time whistle which Bruno Fernandes converted to give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men all three points.
