The fastest goal ever scored in Italian football was witnessed yesterday in the country’s fifth division.
In the Eccellenza Sicily division – which can gain teams promotion to Serie D -, the match between SC Mazarese and Nissa saw a new Italian record set.
Mazarese’s captain Gioacchino Giardina was feeling lucky from kick-off, receiving the ball from his team mate before launching an effort towards goal from the centre circle, with the Nissa keeper helpless despite being positioned in his six-yard box.

The goal beat the previous record set by Rafael Leao who scored against Sassuolo for AC Milan after 6.2 seconds.
According to an Italian report, Giardina’s strike was just short of a WORLD record time held by Gavin Stokes, who scored in a Scottish league match after 2.1 seconds in 2017.
