Former Manchester United and England player Rio Ferdinand has paid an amazing tribute to his former team-mate Wayne Rooney following his official retirement from football.
Rooney has hung up his boots once and for all after being appointed the new full-time manager of Derby County.
Player/coach Rooney got the job after stepping in as the interim manager since November after former boss Phillip Cocu got his marching orders.
Following the news of his official retirement tribute from all over began flooding in from all over including a very fitting one from former team-mate Rio Ferdinand.
The 42-year-old TV pundit spoke of Rooney’s ability and how he hopes now that he’s retired the world of football will begin to recognise just how big of a player Rooney was.

Rooney joined Championship club Derby County as a player-coach in January 2020 from MLS side DC United.
The 33-year-old former forward, who is Manchester United and England’s all-time record goalscorer, joined the Rams on an initial 18-month contract.
