Video: Meet the blind Brazilian footballer nicknamed ‘The Paralympic Pelé’

Everyone in football knows who Pelé is. The Brazilian legend will go down in history as one of the greatest footballers of all time but have you ever heard of ‘The Paralympic Pelé’?

Well, he exists and his name is Jefinho and the blind, Brazilian footballer has earned that title, especially after his performances at the 2016 Paralympic Games.

Jefinho was born with glaucoma and was completely blind by the age of seven but that didn’t kill the Brazilian’s love of football and now he’s one of the Paralympics best.

Despite having never seen the iconic Pelé in action, Jefinho says “It’s an honor for me to be compared to an athlete like Pelé.”

Jefinho has guided Brazil to three Paralympic gold medals in Beijing, London and most recently on home soil at the Rio games in 2016.

The legendary Paralympic footballer will be hoping to make it four at this years games as he and his Brazil team look forward to competing at the 2020 games in Tokyo.
