Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante has been off the boil over the past 18 months or so, but boy, was he back to best against Atletico Madrid last night.
Kante, who prior to Leicester City’s odds-defying Premier League title win in 2016 was completely unknown in the football world, meteorically rose to the summit of the game, winning the league the next year with Chelsea before starring in France’s World Cup triumph.

After another great season playing in a different role under Maurizio Sarri, Kante’s form nosedived under Frank Lampard, with the midfielder struggling to stay fit and healthy, which tends to provide the foundation for his tireless performances.
It’s safe to say he’s back to his best now, though, having put in a man of the match display against Atletico last night.

If there was one moment to sum up just how incredible Kante was on the night, and raise even further doubts as to whether he even originates from planet Earth, it came in the 94th minute, as Emerson scored on the break to sign and seal the victory.

Having played over an hour and a half of intense football, and somehow popping up in every corner of the pitch to snuff out danger and distribute to his teammates, Kante clearly had energy left to burn.
Have a look at how the 29-year-old bust a gut to get himself up the field and provide an option to Christian Pulisic, with his run ending up being the decoy which allowed Emerson the time and space to pick his spot.
