Chelsea star Kai Havertz absolutely destroyed international teammate Toni Kroos with a gorgeous nutmeg during the Blues’ 2-0 victory over Real Madrid yesterday night.
When Havertz signed for Chelsea in the summer of 2020 for a fee in excess of £70M, as per the BBC, expectations were high.
The German had starred for Bayer Leverkusen after the Bundesliga restarted following the pause caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to carry that form into the start of his Chelsea career. Havertz struggled to produce his best performance level.
The youngster left his family to move countries in the middle of a pandemic, while he also contracted COVID-19 himself and had a rough time with it.
All in all, the circumstances did not favour Havertz. It’s easy to see why he was unable to hit the ground running.
In recent weeks, though, we’ve started to see the very best of him, with the 21-year-old producing a wondrous display against Real Madrid last night.
The Real Madrid players were chasing Havertz’s shadow for the best part of the contest, while he has desperately unfortunate not to get on the scoresheet.
He didn’t leave the field of play empty-handed, though, for Havertz pulled off a piece of skill that he’ll no doubt be talking about for some time.
Have a look at how he left Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos with egg on his face by slipping it through his legs.
Don’t be surprised if Kroos opts against turning up for international duty with Germany this summer…
