(Video) Footage shows how the Netherlands ANTAGONISED Argentina during penalty shootout

Footage has been released showing why Argentina celebrated in the faces of the Netherlands team after an intense penalty shootout.

Argentina secured their place in the semi-finals of the World Cup thanks to a penalty shootout win in a fiery match against the Netherlands. Tensions boiled over more than once during the game and it’s fair to say that the referee lost control.

He issued 18 yellow cards, a record-breaking amount, which shows just how volatile the contest was. After Argentina won on penalties, they celebrated in front of the distraught Dutch players, cupping their ears in an effort to antagonise them.

It seemed unfair at the time, but now overhead footage has emerged, showing us why they reacted the way they did.

It’s clear that the Dutch players tried to intimidate the Argentines as they stepped forward to take their penalties.

Argentina was still fired up well after the final whistle, getting into heated arguments with the opposition players and manager. Lionel Messi and Emiliano Martinez both threw shade at the Dutch in their post-match press conferences.

But Argentina marched on and will now face Croatia in the semi-final of the World Cup next week.
