Video: Fabio Martins is in the hat for the Puskas award after outrageous back heel-flick goal

We have a new contender for the next Puskas award and it’s Al-Shabab FC winger Fabio Martins.

Fabio Martins has well and truly submitted a strong application to the Puskas award committee after the Portuguese winger scored a goal that can only be described as a ‘mid-air back heel flicky volley thingy.’

It all started when the Portuguese winger picked the ball up on the halfway line, pulling off a classy turn in the process which left his marker for dead before the 27-year-old drove forward with the ball.

Martins paid the ball off to a teammate while continuing his run into the box where he was picked out by a clean cutback, and what happened next was completely unexpected.

As the ball bobbled up Martins caught the ball mid-air as clean as you like and in a split second he managed to pull off – and we repeat – a ‘mid-air back heel flicky volley thingy’ that sent the ball flying into the net.

See for yourself below and enjoy. It was a great bit of skill.
