Shockingly a riot ensued and as a punishment for the incident Emerson was smacked with an eight-match ban for his role in the ridiculous situation.

According to Globo Esporte Emerson explained why he decided to provoke the Marica fans saying it was because he had been abused by the club during their last few meetings.

“Marica’s people have been slandering me for the past three matches I’ve played against them,” he said. “They’ve called me a slob, an alcoholic and a fat monkey. I was annoyed at what went on.”

Emerson later issued an apology saying: “The people in the stands were swearing at me and giving me a lot of bulls**t, and I crossed the line. It was not premeditated.”
