“Harry Kane has finally scored,” that was the celebratory cry from the Prime Minister after England’s second goal against Germany yesterday evening.
Though England were leading 1-0 thanks to Raheem Sterling’s opener, Thomas Muller’s one-on-one miss proved that the contest was far from over.
While Gareth Southgate would probably have been content with his side sitting back and remaining resolute for what remained of the game, Luke Shaw had other ideas as he drove into the final third and slipped it wide to Jack Grealish.
Grealish’s ball was on the money, with Kane being gifted a brilliant opportunity to score his first goal of the Euro 2020 tournament, one which he grabbed with both hands.
