Diego Simeone’s men were heavy favourites to win the game but like in all cup competitions you’re only as good as you play on the day.
The result will probably go down as one of the greatest upsets in Copa del Rey history after considering Cornella are seventh in their league and they just defeated the current league leaders in La Liga – Atlético Madrid.

Atlético Madrid have now lost more games to division 3 teams than they have against teams from La Liga the past year.
This isn’t Atletico’s first time being embarrassed by a third-tier team in the Copa del Rey after they were knocked out by Cultural Leonesa in 2020 after losing 2-1.
