VIDEO: Another medal and ribbons as Team Ireland continue to shine at Special Olympics

Armagh swimmer Sarah Jane Johnston doubled her medal haul at the Special Olympic Games in Los Angeles today – bringing the Irish total up to four medals after just two days of competition.

Sarah Jane, who had finished third in the backstroke competition on Sunday, claimed another bronze in the 100m freestyle.

Irish competitors also picked up ribbons in swimming and bowling, while others achieved personal bests in a number of events.

27-year-old Lorraine Hession from Galway achieved a personal best in a separate 100m freestyle category, and was rewarded with a fourth place ribbon.

Team Ireland Bowling players Anita O’Connor from Carlow; John Rowan from Rathnew, Co Wicklow, Michael Conboy from Galway city and Sean Campbell, from Coleraine, Co Derry also had a successful day, picking up sixth place ribbons in the bowling competition.

James Meenan from Dundalk achieved a personal best in the 100m heats.

The Games run until August 2, with Irish athletes competing in a total of 12 disciplines.
