U.S sprinting sensation Sha’Carri Richardson is set to miss the Tokyo Olympics after a drug test found cannabis in her system, reports the Daily Mail.

Richardson, 21, is considered the next big hope coming out of America. She’s currently the fastest woman in the states, winning the 100m sprint in the U.S Olympic trials in a time of 10.86 seconds.

Unfortunately, all of her hard work has gone to waste, with the Daily Mail reporting she has been handed a 30-day ban which will see her miss the Tokyo Olympics, which are due to start later this month.

As is detailed in the report, Richardson was found to have tested positive for cannabis at the U.S Olympic trials. Cannabis is still considered a banned substance, hence her suspension.

The report notes that the 21-year-old lost her mother on the week of the trials, which could provide an explanation as to why she made this costly error.

She took to Twitter to send the following message. As much as she is guilty of wrongdoing here, you can’t help but feel sorry for her – after all, she’s only a kid.
