UFC fighter Rafael Alves cries on scales as he misses weight by record amount

Rafael Alves has made headlines ahead o his now cancelled preliminary UFC fight for all the wrong reasons as he missed weight a record 11.5 pounds. This is the most a fighter has ever missed weight in the history of the UFC according to MMA Fighting.

Rafael Alves was in tears when he stepped up to the scales for today’s weigh in with the Featherweight fighter weighing in at 157.5 pounds, that’s 11.5 pounds above the Featherweight limit.

This weight would make Alves even too heavy for Lightweight, the division about Featherweight, he would have had to fight in the Welterweight division.

The fighter tole MMA Fighting that he was planning on moving to ‘Lightweight’ after this bout which had originally been cancelled after his original opponent Mike Triziano pulled out with an ankle injury.

Sabatini took the fight with Alves on short notice and managed to make the weight of 145 pounds.

Rafael posted an apology on Instagram after the missed weigh-in and his reasoning for missing the cut was that he fell ill.

His message translates as

“Guys, I fell ill during my weight cut and my fight was cancelled,”

“I’m sorry, but my health above everything.”
