Frank Warren had told TalkSPORT Fury was sparring a Croatian heavyweight when the injury happened and according to Sky Sports, it is understood to be Agron Smakici, who has a record of 20-2.

Many fans believed the blow to be from an elbow but this has been disputed by Smakici who claims it was a ‘clear punch’.

Boxing Talk (as per The Sun) claim that, in a text message to a third party following the sparring session, Smakici said: “It was a clear punch so I don’t feel bad.”

A disappointed Tyson Fury said in a statement: “I am absolutely devastated after preparing for this fight for so long and being in such superb condition. I feel bad for everyone involved in this huge event and I will work diligently towards the rescheduled date once the eye has healed. I can only apologise to everyone affected including my own team, Team Usyk, the undercard fighters, partners, and fans as well as our hosts and my friends in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”
