The Premier League has charged Nottingham Forest and Everton with breaking profitability and sustainability regulations.
The two clubs were informed about the charges on Monday with Everton potentially facing a second points deduction of the season.
The Merseyside club were hit with a 10-point deduction in November and have since pulled themselves out of the bottom three.
However, if they are hit with another deduction, both clubs could drop into the relegation zone.
