Jamie Carragher’s Twitter mentions must be scrolling at the speed of lightning right now – as hordes of Manchester United fans rush to remind about a comment he made earlier this month.
The Sky Sports pundit tweeted on September 1 after David De Gea’s proposed move from United to Real Madrid fell through at the last minute.
Carragher suggested the affair was a disaster for United, saying of De Gea: “his head won’t be right, he’ll go for free next summer & Man Utd haven’t got 20 mil to panic with today.”
I'm happy DDG is staying his head won't be right, he'll go for free next summer & Man Utd haven't got 20 mil to panic with today.

Oh dear. That’s looking a little silly now – De Gea has signed a new deal with the club and pledged his commitment to the side.
To be fair to Carragher, almost everyone connected with football thought the De Gea/United/Real saga was an unholy mess.
But he’s the guy getting the most stick right now.
@Carra23 @Hayles_101 well this is awkward ?

His status as a Liverpool legend is only adding to United fans’ glee.
@Carra23 how come you are always wrong?!! Must be a characteristic of loserpool players.

@Carra23 We really needed the 20 million to spend because we are poor like the Pool side. Oh btw, have you heard what happened to @D__DeGea

Carragher tweeted about De Gea again this afternoon – wondering about the release clause.
It’s a good question.
Let’s be honest here United fans – it is likely that the new deal only ensures United get a big price for the Spaniard when he leaves for Madrid next summer.
Wonder how much his release clause is? https://t.co/jd4deDrwmn

But the Twitter mob isn’t interested in letting him off the hook just yet.
