Tottenham made shock approach to sign Lionel Messi – no wonder he was crying

Tottenham reportedly made a shock move to try and sign Lionel Messi after his departure from Barcelona was confirmed.

After news broke that Messi was to depart Barcelona, there were only a handful of clubs on the planet where you could picture him playing his football.

Such is the size of the Argentine’s wage packet, only the likes of Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and maybe Chelsea would be able to have him on their payroll.

One of the last teams you’d ever consider to be in the running to sign Messi is Tottenham, though, according to ESPN in South America, Spurs did want to be counted in the race.

Daniel Levy’s delusions of grandeur clearly know no bounds. Messi would surely rather retire than be forced to sign along the dotted line with Tottenham chuffing Hotspur.

Though, if Harry Kane were to depart this summer, there’d scarcely be a better player to replace him than the best footballer in history, would there?
