Tottenham are leading the race to sign Memphis Depay from Barcelona this summer, according to reports in Spain.
Barcelona signed Depay on a short-term contract over the summer following his release by Lyon. Despite a bright start, Depay looks like somewhat of a misfit in the Catalan giants’ forward line, with it being unclear if he has a future at the Nou Camp.
Considering he will have just one-year remaining on his contract come the summer transfer window, there’s a legitimate possibility that the club look to cash-in, especially considering their tender financial situation.
According to Mundo Derportivo, that could play into Tottenham’s hands, with the North London giants said to be at the very front of a queue of clubs who are interested in signing the Dutchman ahead of next season.
Much of Tottenham’s summer business could hinge on whether Harry Kane departs. If he is to walk out the door, Depay could be one player they sign to try and replace his enormous attacking influence.
