Toto Wolff has cunning plan to bring Mercedes back into Formula 1 contention

Mercedes chief Toto Wolff has a cunning plan to return the team to their former glory.

Following a period of dominance that stretched for the best part of a decade, Mercedes have struggled this term.

Neither of their drivers, Lewis Hamilton or George Russell, have yet won a race this season, much to the dismay of British F1 fans.

That could be set to change this weekend, with both Red Bull drivers tumbling down the order in qualifying and Russell springing a surprise lap on the two Ferraris.

Russell pulled a masterful final Q3 lap out of somewhere and managed to top the order, meaning he’ll be on pole for tomorrow’s Hungarian Grand Prix.

There doesn’t appear to be any notable change, improvement or anything specific that Mercedes can nail down that they did differently this weekend.

Team chief Toto Wolff will be retrospectively looking back at the day to determine where the success came from… starting at breakfast.

All jokes aside, it’s great to see Mercedes back in contention. A three-horse race for the second-half of the season will be quite the watch…
