Top 5 Players Likely to Be Transferred in January

Posted by

The January transfer window is well underway, and nowhere do clubs splash the cash on players more at this time of year than clubs in the Premier League. Some clubs are fighting to survive and stay up in the cash-soaked top league, while the top guns are battling in an incredibly close title race (only 8 points separate first place from ninth). So, here we will discuss five likely players to be transferred in this January window and the chance that they end up at Premier League clubs.

1. Dayot Upamecano
This sturdy French central defender from RB Leipzig has been on Jürgen Klopp’s radar for some time now. While Liverpool is on the prowl for a commanding defender to replace the injured Virgil van Dijk, they face stiff competition from Chelsea and Bayern Munich for the Frenchman’s signature. The 22-year-old sensation has already played more than 100 senior games at the club level and three games for the French national team, making him an experienced starlet. Liverpool has the biggest need amongst top European clubs for a central defender, but Bayern Munich is also keen to strengthen their backline with Jerome Boateng and David Alaba on their way out soon.

2. Dele Alli
English attacking midfielder Dele Alli has been on the outs at Tottenham after he has failed to impress new manager José Mourinho. While he’s sat on the bench most of the year, Alli still has immense ability and is looking for game time to recapture his stellar form from the 2016-17 season, which saw him score 18 goals. PSG have expressed interest in the England international, as Alli could become the latest English star to seek success outside of his home country.

3. Ángel Di María
At the age of 32, Di María is still a top player in Europe, with deceptive pace and tricky dribbling. But on a team with Neymar and Mbappé, it’s difficult to get regular football as a forward. The Argentine winger has been linked to Tottenham and Juventus. Tottenham would be an interesting move as his former boss José Mourinho looks to push for the title.

4. Wilfried Zaha
Ever since Wilfried Zaha moved back to Crystal Palace in 2015 and started showing his Premier League quality, the Ivorian winger has been involved in transfer rumours at top European clubs. This January, Arsenal is sniffing around Crystal Palace with rumours swirling after Zaha missed a key game against Manchester City on Sunday. With blistering pace and technical skills, Zaha would add much-needed dynamism to Arsenal, who has struggled to win games this season and sit in a mid table position.

5. Facundo Medina
Definitely not the biggest name on this list, Argentine left-back Facundo Medina has impressed Manchester United enough to be linked with a big move to England. Currently playing for RC Lens in France, the young Medina has already been capped by his home nation despite playing at a smaller club. The Red Devils are keen on strengthening their left flank in defence after a slow start for Brazilian Alex Telles at the club.
