Tony Bellew has taken to social media following Artur Beterbiev’s win over Callum Smith.

The British fighter came into the bout as a live underdog but Beterbiev scored his 20th professional win of his career and in the process his 20th stoppage.

Earlier in the week news broke that Beterbiev had returned ‘atypical’ results in a VADA doping test and Bellew has voiced his concerns about the Russian.

Taking to X formerly Twitter he posted:

‘He’s a beast and a fighter who is getting stronger as he gets older which is hard to believe but he is! Callum as brave as anything! A soldier who went there and gave it everything! Faced that monster in his backyard! So frustrated cos I wanna say more! 😡boxing😡’

He then continued:

‘Obviously we wanna see Bivol Beterbiev next! It’s a great fight but please show me a fighter who has got stronger with age! He’s 39 and he’s getting more destructive! Physically that’s not usually possible but he’s doing it! Our great sport needs looking at like Baseball was!’

I say as an ex boxer in the 70’s that beterbiev was on some sort of drugs in his fight with Callum Smith as when Smith was hitting he didn’t even blink an eye and at the age of 39 you can’t box and do what he did to an average Callum Smith as that was not the Callum Smith that we are used to seeing as I’ve followed all his fights since he became a professional Boxer. Beterbiev was on drugs and should have been tested straight after the fight.

    1. He was found to have a drugs test with adverse findings before the fight but apparently it wernt a failed drugs test and the fight went on so you know the whole drugs testing system and worked there need investigating

  2. Let’s not start this..how do we know that he was on drugs..am sure that he was tested before the fight and will be as well.

He definitely looked on a completely different level to Mundo and I’ve seen a lot of his fights, he looked ordinary against beterbiev who definitely looked like he was on something he wasn’t even blinking at the left hooks of smith were landing, and in fairness smiths face looked absolutely broken well done to belle for speaking up and raising concerns boxing needs cleaning up sooner rather than later

    1. Smith is ordinary ISH. He’s stepped up twice and lost. Other than that his record is padded out with average fighters.. bar maybe groves

  4. I stopped following the sport when it became a business that fighters control.
    Mandatory drug testing prior and post fight should be done as part of the discipline.
    Fighters should also face mandatory opposition and not cherry pick for money! (Fury, AJ)
    The sport needs more than looking at. It needs belts wiping and all under one
    boxing body, requalification to another single fight system. Currently you can have 3 different same weight champions!!!!; how is that even possible?
    It’s a corrupt Sport that’s gone to the dogs!

    1. The game is riddled with drug cheats, and the chaotic governing bodies care only about money, not the fighters.
      Tony Bellew speaks the truth, nothing will change though.

  5. If Bellew has evidence to support what he’s suggesting then put it on the table. If not it’s just speculation and nothing more. He needs to be careful.

  8. Look at you all blaming ‘drugs’.. beterbiev is a strong natural russian fighter that follows his religion completly.. if gods with you who can be against you? Hes a fully devoted muslim that has faith with his religion and thats why he is what he is!!!!

  10. beterbiev makes fights look simple he has amazing power and uses it extremely well add to the fact he has stamina to match the power and just keeps coming forward as steve Collins used nobody likes those kind of fighters

  12. Artur is a Genetic lottery winner. Guy is not only a top boxer but a top athlete. Can’t disclose how I know but he is different from almost all of us.

Beterbiev, like many excellent boxers is a one off, he’s 39 but sport throws up anomalies all the time and they’re rare, for example Jonah Lomu, Novak Djokovic, Messi, GGG, Ali, Sugar Ray, Flo Jo, Venus Williams, Marc Marquez , Jimmy Anderson, Usain Bolt, Michael Johnson, I could go on. These are athletes who stand out on a planet of billions, there are so few of them, it is not unusual that people that good can go on for so long.

    1. Why is GGG in there ? Must be a favorite but does not near deserve to be mentioned with the athletes you brought up
