Mikel Arteta on borrowed time as Arsenal achieve something for first time in 25 years

In wake of Arsenal’s Europa League exit yesterday evening, the stats are looking pretty horrifying for manager Mikel Arteta.

Arteta was hanging on by a thread earlier in the campaign, with Arsenal closer to the relegation zone than they were even the Europa League qualification spots.

However, the Spaniard survived, and Arsenal rallied, at least somewhat.

Things have now taken another stark turn for the worse, with last night’s 0-0 draw to Villarreal seeing Arsenal exit the Europa League and their season effectively end.

Arsenal crashed out of the Europa League to Villarreal on Thursday night.

Arsenal are ninth in the Premier League, with Everton and Liverpool above them, as well as Aston Villa below, all having a game in hand over the Gunners.

The prospect of them getting into Europe via their league position is virtually non-existent, which leaves them set to play a season without European football for the first time since 1995/96.

As if things weren’t bad enough for Arteta, he’s now going to be the man to lead Arsenal to what feel like all-time lows in the Premier League era, certainly in recent memory.

You wonder just how much more Stan Kroenke will tolerate before handing Arteta his marching orders.
