When it comes to transfers, everyone has a different opinion of the matter whether it be about the price, ability of the player or club choice, but there are some players that I’m sure we can all agree really didn’t live up to expectation of there transfer fee. So we at BenchWarmers thought we would remind you of the worst transfers that happened by Premier League Clubs.
The Portuguese winger joined United after leaving Vitoria de Guimaraes for a fee of around £7.4million and it is fair to say he has to be one of if not the worst signing Sir Alex Ferguson ever made. The mark he left on the United team was so small that Sir Alex told Bebe to get his hair cut, so Bebe did and the next day at training Bebe has been stated saying that the Scotsman didn’t even recognise him.. Ouch!
9. Gabriel Obertan – Manchester United
8 – Roque Santa Cruz – Manchester City
7. Paulinho – Tottenham Hotspur
6. Alberto Aquilani – Liverpool
5. Robinho – Manchester City
4. Anderson – Manchester United
The midfielder wasn’t quite the quality of a player from United that is expected nowadays and was constantly remarked of as fat on social media, in fact it is said that because of the weight problems in the United team chips were banned from the training ground cantine.. Maybe the reason Anderson ended up leaving United then?
3. Radamel Falcao – Manchester United
The Columbian was a formidable goal scorer in his Atletico Madrid’s days but after a hefty transfer to French side Monaco his performances dropped after a knee injury left him out of action for quite some time, after completing an unexpected loan move to Manchester United on deadline day, the striker was earning around £300,000 a week with half being paid by Monaco, although he still only scored four under Louis Van Gaal an was not chosen to be brought by the Manchester club.
2. Andy Carroll – Liverpool
The former Newcastle striker joined Liverpool for £35million and was unveiled at the same time as Luis Suarez, we all know which player turned for the better as Carroll’s career slipped down the drain after being beloved to be England’s future striker but ended up joining West Ham.
1. Fernando Torres – Chelsea
The former Liverpool striker joined Chelsea for a fee of £50million breaking the Premier League’s transfer record but did not break any Chelsea records other than the biggest waste of money. His famous miss against Manchester United didn’t help the Spaniard but if he could put anything on his CV, its making Gary Neville very excited after Torres’s goal against Barcelona in the Champions League Semi Final and bringing the invention of the ‘Goalgasm’.
So that’s the worst Premier League signings in our eyes, but what about yours? Have a different opinion then voive it on the comments and share your thoughts. That’s all for now,
