The Rock and Randy Orton had a hilarious segment in 2004

The Rock and Randy Orton are two of the all-time greats in WWE history but two who also unfortunately never met in a singles match. A segment between the pair in 2004 adds to the feeling that it is one of the company’s biggest missed opportunities.

The two men had faced off at WrestleMania 20 a few months prior to their meeting on the June 21st episode of Raw, with The Great One reforming “The Rock ‘n’ Sock’ connection with Mick Foley to take on Evolution, consisting of Ric Flair, Batista and Orton. The 24-year-old “Legend Killer” added another name to his list by pinning Foley.

After again defeating the Hardcore legend in his specialty match at Backlash, Orton was riding high coming into the summer. That’s where he went head-to-head with The Rock, but solely on the mic.

The Rock did what The Rock does and cut Orton to shreds with a series of gags about meeting him as a child (both grew up in the business). Orton played his role to perfection, going along with and falling for The Rock’s quick wit.

Take a look at their back-and-forth below (shared on Twitter by Clyde 5)

It’s clear from the clip that a programme between the two would have been akin to printing money, and it really could and should have happened at some point during The Rock’s second run from 2011 to 2013.

The story would have written itself given their family histories in the business, and it will go down as one of WWE’s biggest “What Ifs”.
