Osaka revealed that it is due to this hand injury that she could not bend her fingers properly.
Following her defeat, she was left heartbroken in the press conference, and revealed that she wants to take a break “for a while”.
She burst into tears and apologised to fans for disappointing them.
Osaka confessed that she disappointed her trainer, Patrick Mouratoglou, who previously worked with Serena Williams.
She told reporters: “I think as time goes on, I feel like I should be doing better. I hate disappointing people.
“So, like, even with [coach] Patrick [Mouratoglou], I was thinking this just now, but like, he goes from working with, like, the greatest player ever to, like, ‘what the f*** this is?’ You know what I mean?”
It has been a tough time for Osaka since returning to tennis after becoming a mother for the first time.
