Stan Collymore SLAMS VAR and says it should be scrapped

Pundit Stan Collymore has had his say on the state of VAR in the Premier League, calling for it to be scrapped.

The former Liverpool player has said that he believes the technology is doing more harm than good after a host of errors were witnessed across the league last weekend.

The rules around VAR still cause confusion amongst followers of the sport and Collymore, in an exclusive interview with Caughoffside, is of the opinion that it needs to be gotten rid of.

Before VAR was introduced, correct refereeing decisions were around the 98% mark and now, with VAR, that number has gone up by about half a percent, so the improvement is minimal.

There are some instances where we, as fans, are made to review offside offences that we can barely see with the human eye.

“It’s ridiculous and it’s making a mockery of the world’s biggest sport. In my opinion, the VAR experiment is over. It hasn’t worked and it doesn’t look like it’s ever going to work, so let’s just get rid of it and go back to how it used to be.”

The PGMOL issued apologies to Brighton and Arsenal yesterday over the incorrect referring decisions that affected their respective matches, while Chelsea were not given one after they were denied what looked like a stonewall penalty against West Ham.

These decisions could be make or break when it comes to the business end of the season, so we can only hope that VAR is used properly going forward because things like this just can’t continue.
