Irish golfer Padraig Harrington has announced that he will not be taking part in the upcoming PGA Championship.

The 48 year old Dubliner announced on Facebook that due to concerns surrounding Covid-19, he will not be taking part in the championship in San Francisco next week.

The event is due to take place at TPC Harding Park from August 3rd until August 9th.

Overall, Harrington has six PGA tour victories and 20 international victories in his career.

In a statement released on Facebook this morning, Padraig Harrington said:

“After much deliberation, I have decided not to travel to next week’s PGA Championship.

“As Covid-19 currently looks to be under control in Ireland, I am taking the prudent approach by following the guidelines and reducing the risk as much as possible by staying at home.

“I’m sure I’ll be watching every shot on TV with great interest and hopefully I’ll have many more years to play in the PGA Championship.Take care, Padraig.”
