Heavyweight boxer Niall Kennedy has landed a huge fight against Alen Babic in Newcastle on October 4th.

Wexford native Kennedy, who also works as a full-time Garda based in Wicklow, suffered his first defeat to Olympian Devin Vargas 13 months ago.

The 36-year-old suffered a back injury in the buildup to the fight and he’ll be looking to get back to winning ways and boost his impressive record of 13-1-1.

The bout will take place on the undercard of the light-heavyweight clash between Joshua Buatsi and Marko Calic, it will also be broadcast live on Sky Sports.

Babic, 29, is regarded as one of the most exciting up-and-coming heavyweights after four knockouts to date in his professional career.

Last time out, Babic made light work of Shawndell Winters in two rounds during Matchroom Boxing’s Fight Camp.

A win over the Croatian, who fights under Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing promotiong, would help Kennedy to secure more high-profile fights.
