Snooker party boy ditches major tournament as he goes public with his girlfriend

Snooker World Championship-winning player Luca Brecel didn’t bother to turn up to the first tournament of the new season on Sunday.

The Belgian, who became the champion of the world in 2023, was pictured with his new girlfriend Shawney Demuyter hours before the match was due to begin.

In another snap, the player posted two pizzas and two glasses of wine.

Brecel was scheduled to face Pakistan’s Haris Tahir at the Wuhan Open in China, but he opted to skip the qualifying game.

The 30-year-old won the Snooker World Championship at The Crucible in Sheffield in 2023 with a victory over Mark Selby.

However, this time he had to forfeit the match 5-0 as he failed to show up.

Brecel will not be allowed to compete at the event and will miss out on a winner’s prize of £140,000.

It’s unprofessional to see a player go missing due to dating commitments. This also shows that he lives by his own rules.

Before meeting his new flame, Brecel was in a relationship with Laura Vanoverberghe.
