Sir Keir Starmer mocked by fans for cringe call with hero Lionesses

Sir Keir Starmer has been mocked by fans after he made an awkward phone call to the Lionesses as they enjoyed celebrations in Downing Street.

Sarina Wiegman’s side retained the title as European champions as they defeated Spain on a penalty shoot-out after a tense 1-1 draw.

Chloe Kelly dispatched the decisive spot kick as the Lionesses celebrated with the trophy once again.

The newly-crowned winners arrived for a celebratory reception at Downing Street on Monday evening, hosted by Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner and sports minister Stephanie Peacock.

However, Sir Keir was not in attendance due to his meeting with US President Donald Trump in Scotland.

The US President welcomed the PM and his wife, Victoria, to his golf course at Turnberry this afternoon for wide-ranging talks.

Starmer managed to get in touch with the Lionesses while they were at the Downing Street garden over a phone call.

He said: “Fantastic to see you all and welcome to Downing Street. I just wanted to say a huge congratulations to you and the whole team.”

The video-call lasted about five minutes and Wiegman could be heard saying “hello Keir, nice to see you”, adding “it’s lovely here”.

However, trolls were quick to criticise Sir Keir’s phone call.

One replied: “So cringe.”

Another one added: “Wonder who is filming that for Keir with their phone and a hastily tilted lampshade?? What happened ? Shouldn’t he be dressed in a kilt and be striding across the rugged Scottish countryside, pointing out local local features to Trump before they retire into a local hostelry for a Scotch tasting and bonding session?… Ah, no, Trump decided they’d do a lengthy open questions press session instead! :-)”

A third one wrote: “This does not sound genuine.”

A fourth one added: “Why does Keir have that uncanny valley AI feel in this video? It just gives off such weird vibes man.”
