Footage from the start of the season of Sir Alex Ferguson praising Aston Villa has resurfaced after their incredible Premier League run.
Although Unai Emery’s side are flying high after beating the treble winner’s 1-0 on Wednesday night, not many would’ve predicted their success at the start of the season.
Aston Villa were smashed by Newcastle 5-1 in their opening Premier League game at St. James’ Park.
A lot of people immediately wrote off their season there and then but the former Manchester United boss did not.
When he was asked who, out of all the teams, had surprised him the most on the opening weekend he named Villa.
“To be honest with you, I watched Aston Villa and I can’t believe the scoreline,” Fergie said.
“Honestly, Aston Villa played fantastic football and just lost to bad goals, it’s a surprising game, football.”
