Tragic video shows aftermath of fatal shark attack at popular holiday destination

A tourist in Egypt has tragically lost their life after a vicious attack by a shark in the Red Sea, reports the Mirror.

While being attacked by a shark is everyone’s greatest fear when getting into the ocean, it’s a well-established fact that sharks very rarely attack humans, with a small percentage of attacks that do happen resulting in a fatality.

However, an Austrian tourist who was swimming during her holiday in Egypt has found tragically found herself on the wrong end of the probability spectrum, having been attacked by a shark in the sea and subsequently lost her life.

As is reported by the Mirror, a video has done the rounds on social media, filmed by Russian holidaymakers, who captured the heart-racing moment that the woman desperately attempted to swim to safety.

We have decided against including the video in our report out of respect for the victim.

The Mirror’s report notes that she lost both an arm and a leg during the attack by the shark. She was evidently struggling to swim back to shore, but none of the onlookers were brave enough to get into the water and help her.

While she did eventually manage to make her way back and was given immediate attention by paramedics, she later died, with the report published by the Mirror suggesting it was the shock caused by the excruciating pain which overwhelmed her.

There is an evident lack of lifeguards or any sort of seaside assistance on hand to rescue the lady or offer her any kind of assistance while she was in the water. The 68-year-old was left alone in the sea after being attacked by the shark.

You imagine there will be an enquiry into what happened and how her death could have been avoided, with the Sahl Hasheesh bay being a popular Red Sea destination for those heading on holiday to Egypt.

Unfortunately, it took the passing of the lady involved for the jeopardy to be highlighted. Our thoughts are with her loved ones at this impossibly difficult time – and may she rest in peace.
